Orchestration is how action becomes a habit. All significant growth stems from orchestration. Orchestrating action into everyday life is just the first layer, though. Life happens, and it pays to be adaptable.
Orchestration allows for the consistent and practical application of action – day in, day out. I love the idea that pursuit or craft can be woven so heavily into the fabric of your life that it becomes second nature.
Orchestration takes hard work and effort. It demands discipline, time, and systems. The day built on a resilient foundation is more rewarding than the day without that base – but if that base is too rigid and unforgiving, you’ll find yourself in tough spot when chaos takes over the day.
When life revs up, things tend to break down. The fabric starts to loosen up and fray; the tight-knit weaves begin to come apart and holes come out of hiding. The situation begins to dictate action instead of action dictating the situation. The nature of the day turns from proactive to reactive.

Life doesn’t exist or act according to a schedule – and even if it did, it’s pretty egocentric to believe it would revolve around your schedule. Life is dynamic and unpredictable, that’s part of what makes it so awesome. Your goal shouldn’t be to force-fit life into a pre-existing notion, you should make the intention to feel the tempo and find the groove.
When the tempo of life changes, prioritize adaptation. Focus on understanding and implementing the principles that make up the foundation of your life. Find a way to exercise those same values in the chaos.
Instead of looking at your ordinary day as a string of specific routine-items, do your best to see it as a template. Generic, not specific – place emphasis on principles and values, then on actions that represent those values. This gives you day-to-day alignment with the person you want to become. Deviating from routine may give the illusion of stepping backward, but it’s really just taking the blinders off and widening your perspective.
If you’re being honest with yourself, you’ll find plenty of opportunities to work on and work in your values. All it takes is a mentality to orchestrate adaptation. Don’t be a slave to your routine – who wants to live a totally normal day anyway?
